The Aylesbury Estate in Walworth, South London, has stood for over forty years and has seen all life; births, marriages and deaths and has been home to tens of thousands of poeple since 1963. Now due for demolition this iconic and unforgettable London landmark will live-on in a unique project run by residents and members of the local craft group. Throughout July and August there will be free workshops and community sessions for knitters new and accomplished to take part in this one-off project. |

Some of the residents who attend the local craft and knitting group in the Crypt at St Peters, Walworth have decided to save their own version of their homes and are embarking on a project to "Knit the Aylesbury Estate", a permament reminder and testament to their home for so many years. All 2,500 homes and 50 blocks, complete with gsrdens, trees and windows. You can get involved at the following sessions which are being held in the community over the course of the summer, culminating in a knitting club night in 15th August... |

Saturdays 26th July, 1st and 8th August: pop into I Knit London, 106 Lower Marsh, SE1 for a few minutes or a few hours in the afternoon and knit your bit - whether it's a whole block or just a window. Materials provided. |

Elefest, 12th July: at Elefest architecture week event, St Mary's Churchyard, Elephant and Castle, SE1, from 6pm to 9pm. Includes free open air screening of archive footage of when the Heygate and Aylesbury were built. |
