  Gritting The Tunnel
Leake Street

The Tunnel is a new 'art gallery' hidden beneath Waterloo Station in London. Opened by the artist Banksy in September 2008, the space is now an open canvas for graffiti and street artists to show their work, free from any legal or artistic constraints. The Tunnel features an ever changing display of simple tags to huge one-off pieces by hundreds of artists from across the globe. It has been used by the Old Vic for performance art, and has seen installations and artwork from a diverse selection of artists...we will be bringing Gritting to the Tunnel in August 2009...

Graffiti

On Saturday August 1st, we were joined by knitters and graffiti artists to create a fusion of can and craft. We wanted as many people to come along and join us to knit or crochet pieces to decorate the posts, railings and other street furniture alongside graf artists to spray and paint their own interpretations.

Leake Street

Over the past few years 'gritting' (graffiti-knitting), 'yarnbombing' or 'yarnstorming' has been increasing in popularity, with some graffiti artists reluctant to embrace the urban knitwear, and some crafters keen to cover up traditional graffiti.
